Windows 11 is here. Indeed, it has stopped being a rumor and has arrived loaded with new features. However, it also has features of Windows 10. So the owners of genuine copies of Windows 10, will be able to upgrade for free to Windows 11. In addition, the first upgrades will start rolling out at the end of 2021 and continue in 2022. Windows Update will notify users when the installation is ready to be downloaded and installed. On the other hand, Microsoft does not mention an expiration date for this offer. However, they clarify that the new users will have to pay the license to be able to use Windows 11.
Minimum requirements to install Windows 11 for free
Microsoft wants to do things right. Therefore, the first versions of Windows 11 will come in beta form. And they will be tested by Windows Insider participants. Then they will be released gradually. Now, Microsoft has reported the minimum installation requirements for Windows 11. Certainly, they are hardware features present in most modern computers.
- A processor of 1 GHz or faster with 2 or more cores 64 bits compatible.
- 4 GB of RAM.
- 64 GB of internal storage.
- DirectX 12/WDDM 2.x compatible graphics card.
- Display of at least 9 inches with HD resolution (720p).
- Secure Boot.
- TPM 2.0.
- Internet connection and a Microsoft account to activate Windows 11 Home.
Microsoft states that additional or superior hardware may be required. This is to enjoy an optimal experience and unlock specific features. On the other hand, there is good news for those who cannot upgrade to Windows 11. Either because they wish to remain on Windows 10, or simply cannot upgrade. This system will continue to receive support and updates until October 2025. However, it is expected to receive security patches for a while longer. In the case of upgrading to Windows 11, it would be possible to keep the programs and files. But it is advisable to make a backup copy.
