Hi, you may not know it, but it’s still possible to upgrade for free to Windows 10. It’s been more than 5 years since Windows 10 debuted in July 2015. At that time, users of Windows 7, and 8.1 were offered the opportunity to make the jump to Windows 10 for free. Indeed, when Microsoft launched its latest version of the operating system, it did so with an aggressive marketing campaign. As part of this strategy, users were offered free upgrades to their operating systems. This option lasted one year. However, more than 5 years later it is possible to upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or 8.1 for free.
Step 1. Download the Media Creation Tool
In the first place, go to the Microsoft website and download the media creation tool.
Execute the tool.
Once the tool has been downloaded, simply run it normally. Please note that for this method to work, you have to do a normal update. In this way, the license you use with Windows 7 or 8.1 will be upgraded to activate Windows 10. As a matter of fact , if you upgrade from scratch, you need to add a valid Windows 10 license. In other words, you’d have to pay. So after accepting the license, then select the option Upgrade this PC now
Then the wizard will start downloading the operating system. It will also check if your computer is compatible to install the system. In addition, it will probably present a list of problematic programs with the update. It is up to you to uninstall them or proceed with the upgrade. Please remember to choose the option Keep personal files and apps. This will validate Windows 10 with the system key. Also, the version that will be installed will be the same one you were using. That is, Windows 10 Home, Pro, Enterprise or Education
Step 3. Finish the installation
As the installer does his job, then the computer will restart several times. I assume that your system is legally activated, so no activation key will be required. Please remember to choose the option Keep personal files and apps. This validates Windows 10 with the system key. Also, the version that will be installed will be the same one you were using. That is Windows 10 Home, Pro, Enterprise or Education. Once the wizard finishes its work, Windows 10 is successfully installed. As an additional note, if during the update process the system is not active, then you can do it manually. To do so, press the Win+I combination to enter the settings.
Then follow the path below:Update & Security>Activation. Once there, connected to the Internet the PC will be activated with a digital license. Or as an alternative option, you can add your Windows 7 or 8.1 key if the device is not yet activated.
Ultimately we have seen how to upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or 8.1 for free. This is very useful for Windows 7 users since its support ends in January 2020. This is all for now, before saying goodbye I invite you to see our post about DNS in Android.
