How to create and restore a System Image Backup on Windows 10.

Indeed, there is an occasional user who needs the computer for basic activities. He usually has little technical knowledge and is limited to using his computer as it is. On the other hand, there is the average user who is aware of the performance of their system. Now, the stability of the system is a concern of any user. As a matter of fact, there are different methods to recover the system from a malfunction. In this opportunity, we are going to talk about a system image backup. This method allows you to make an integrated copy of all the information available on a disk, including partitions and the boot sector. It also integrates the configurations and applications made within the operating system. For that reason, let’s see how to create and restore a system image backup.

The first thing we need to do is go inside the control panel. With this in mind, type control into the search bar

Once inside the control panel, go to Backup and Restore (Windows 7).

In the next window, select in the left column the option create a system image

Next, a wizard will be displayed, in which you must select the location where the backup will be saved. It can be on a hard drive, on one or more DVDs or at a network location. In this case, we will choose the hard drive and press Next to continue the procedure.

Next, you must confirm the location of the backup and its size. In addition, the system to be backed up is indicated. Press Start Backup to begin the job.

In addition, a window will warn that the procedure is started with the backup on the drive.

The backup process will take time depending on the size of the disk, installed applications and files. Once the process is finished, the wizard will ask if you want to create a system repair disc. For now, we say no.

Finally, the wizard warns that the process has been completed and the backup is successful.

How to restore Windows 10 using a System Image Backup.

Now, if the system fails, we can restore it using the previously created system image. With this in mind, we need to enter windows settings. To do that, click on the windows symbol, and then on the toothed wheel.

Once inside settings, please go to Update and Security

In the next window, go to the Recovery option on the left. Then, into Advanced Setup, please select Restart Now

Immediately, the system will reboot and we will be in the reboot menu. There we need to enter Troubleshoot.

Inside Troubleshoot are the options Reset this PC and Advanced Options. Select Advanced Options

Once in the Advanced Options menu, select System Image Recovery

Then we must validate the user account, entering the password.

In the following menu, the wizard will search for images of available systems. You can choose the most recent or any other created. In this case, select a system image.

Then we will see the data of the image to restore: Date, location, time and system to recover.

In the following window, confirm the image to recover.

Once the system image is confirmed, we will be able to choose some additional options. Thereupon, there is the option to format and repartition existing disks to fit the system image. It is also possible to install additional drivers to ensure the reading of the system image.

All right, once the requirements are met, we must confirm the restoration. Please note that this process should not be interrupted as the system may become unusable.

A warning sign will indicate that all the data present on the disk will be replaced with the data present in the system image. Press yes to continue

The process will begin and may take from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the size of the image. Please note that if you interrupt the procedure, you may permanently damage the system. Once the restoration is complete, the system will reboot with the settings contained in the system image.
