How to block adult websites in all browsers

Hello! We are all aware that the internet is a window to almost unlimited knowledge. In fact, the amount of information is very rich and varied. For that reason, it can be used for personal enrichment. However, there are also a lot of adult websites available. They contain pornographic content, drug, or alcohol sales. In short, nothing suitable for younger visitors. Therefore, it is very useful to have a tool to prohibit entrance to these sites. On the other hand, if you are an administrator of a company or a network, it is also advisable to limit these accesses. For this reason, we will teach you how to manage the router’s DNS to block access to adult content. Don’t worry, we will accompany you throughout the process. So let’s see how to block adult websites in all browsers.

Determining the connection gateway in Windows 10

The first step is to determine the IP address of the gateway. This is key, as it will allow access to the router’s settings. With this in mind, please press the Win+R combination and run CMD.

Write CMD in the run box

Once there, please run the following command:

ipconfig

Many values are immediately displayed. However, the one we are interested in is the Default Gateway. In my case, the value is 192.168.1.1.

You must then paste that IP address into any web browser. Please note that you must know the router’s access credentials:

Configuring the DNS with the values assigned by OpenDNS

This time we will use the DNS values assigned by OpenDNS. This provider blocks all content related to pornography. Besides, it’s free and easy to configure. The first thing you have to do is look for the configuration relative to LAN or WAN, depending on the model of the router. Well, the values you have to modify correspond to the First DNS Server and Secondary DNS Server. Then modify them like this:

First DNS Server: 208.67.222.123

Second DNS Server: 208.67.220.123

Please press Apply

Sets the new DNS values.

Resetting the network connection in Windows 10

After establishing the changes at the router level, it is necessary to restart the network connection in the system. With this in mind, please follow this path: Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing Center>Change Adaptor Settings. Then select the current connection. Please right-click and press Disable.

Disable the connection.
Disable the connection.

After 5 five seconds, repeat the process but this time to enable the connection.

Please enable the connection
Please enable the connection

Now when you try to enter any adult site, you will see the following warning:

Access to adult pages, blocked by DNS
Access to adult pages, blocked by DNS

Even if we try to access it from Advanced Settings it will be impossible.

In this simple way, we have seen how to block adult websites in any browser. From now on, you will be able to control the content that children surf. All right, this is it! Before I say goodbye I invite you to see our post about creating reminders in Windows 10. So long!
