Linux is an open system is adaptable for many different things due to the availability of its source code. In addition, as it is a secure system, everything will go well with the data. for this reason is that many NAS devices use it as a system. Today in this article I will show you how to install OpenMediaVault for your NAS.
First of all, it is convenient to say that NAS is a technology for connecting a server with TCP protocol to store files and share them on a network. A major benefit of NAS is its ability to provide multiple clients on the network with access to the same files. For example, it is used by many companies worldwide that need to have their files available anywhere.
OpenMediaVault is a network attached storage (NAS) solution based on Debian Linux. It contains services like SSH, (S)FTP, SMB/CIFS, DAAP media server, RSync, BitTorrent client and many more. It’s simple, out-of-the-box and extensible via plugins.
Let’s install it.
Requirements
The hardware requirements to install OpenMediaVault are very accessible as it is a Debian 9 based system. Generally, you need 1gb ram, at least 20gb of hard disk and a 64bits processor.
I will use VirtualBox for this tutorial, but the process is the same if you have real hardware.
Downloading OpenMediaVault
First, go to your download section and download the image.
If you use real hardware, you need to burn the image to a flash drive and make it bootable. For this I recommend etcher.

Once you get the system started, you’ll see something like this.
Select the Install option. If you have installed Debian 9 you will find the process very similar.
First you’ll be asked what country you’re in.
Then, you will have to configure the Keymap of the keyboard. Choose yours.
At the end of the network configuration, you have enter the hostname of the computer.
Now it is the turn to place the domain name. If you don’t have one, then, leave it empty.
The next step is to define the root password.
Next, the installation wizard will configure the clock from the internet. However, you have also enter your time zone.
After, the system will start the OpenMediaVault installation.
Equally important that the system is the network mirror you have use of Debian. Remember that OpenMediaVault is based on Debian 9. Choose the mirror closest to you.
Then it will scan the base mirror.
In addition, at the time of installation, you must choose where to install the GRUB boot loader. In this case, /dev/sda.
If everything went well, you should see this message at the end.
Finally, reboot the system. When you start the system, you will see the following screen, informing the IP address to access the web panel and the credentials to access it.
