Hello, friends. While it is true that services like Netflix or Amazon Prime are world leaders, there is another alternative like IPTV. So in this post, you will learn how to install Hypnotix which is the IPTV client that offers us Linux Mint.
Recently the Linux Mint development team informed that a new version of Hypnotix is available. This IPTV client is in a very early stage of development but it is usable from now on.
Install Hypnotix on Linux
For now, as it is a rather early stage of development, Hypnotix is only available in DEB format so it is perfectly compatible with UBuntu 20.04 onwards.
If you use this distribution or Linux Mint 20 or any derivative, just execute these commands:
wget https://github.com/linuxmint/hypnotix/releases/download/1.1/hypnotix_1.1_all.deb
And then install it with APT
sudo apt install ./hypnotix_1.1_all.deb
Remember that this installation can also be done using your system’s graphic interface.
Install Hypnotix on Linux Mint 19.3
Linux Mint 20 is a marvel but there are still users who use the reliable Linux Mint 19.3
Trying to install Hypnotix on this system will cause a dependency error. You can fix it, installing the package python3-imdbpy_6.8-2_all.deb
wget http://lug.mtu.edu/ubuntu/pool/universe/i/imdbpy/python3-imdbpy_6.8-2_all.deb
And install it:
sudo apt install ./python3-imdbpy_6.8-2_all.deb
And then, if you can download and install Hypnotix as before.
Using Hypnotix
As soon as the application is installed, we can run it from the main menu without problems.
Once you do it, you will see the following screen
On this main screen, you will see how the sources are classified by TV channels, Movies, and Series.
To access the Hypnotix default catalog (FreeIPTV) click on TV Channel
As you can see there are many. Just choose a country and then the channels will be loaded. Select one and the playback will start.
Also, from the main window, you can add other providers by clicking on the TV-shaped button.
It’s really easy to use the application but it’s what Linux Mint always does to take everything to the next level of ease.
Conclusion
Linux Mint continues to offer us solutions to remain the distribution that best suits the novice. In this sense, this application is another step forward. It won’t be ready for version 20.1 but it’s moving forward and today it’s usable.
Hypnotix comes with Linux Mint now and it works great!
I m use Mint 19.3 Mate and take a problem.

Much like W’s earlier comment, I got the same thing. Mint 19.3.

You need to install libmpv
> try sudo apt install libmpv1 in a terminal.
O Hypnotix não funciona bem no meu Computador. Demora a abrir e depois trava tudo e o computador tem que ser desligado na tomada…
Exactly the same issue as Bert, above, in 19.3 – 20.1 works fine.
I bit the bullet and upgraded from 19.3 to 20.1. I am able to open the app and watch IPTV channels.
I had researched over a few days in trying to find urls for providers to work, I even used the terminal commands which failed, then I came across a website, which had URL and all 5 of the URLs worked for me and I have over 10,000 TV channels for Hypnotix. So here are the 5 different URLs:
